Here are the Rules!
IT IS ABSOLUTELY VITAL THAT YOU READ THESE.
(You shouldn't app without having read them.)
~
+Section 1+
+General and Roleplay+
+ The roleplay is based on the idea of horror, in which the setting is a creepy place, with monsters lurking around in the deep. It's an atmospheric scary, humid swamp that's always clouded and without direct sunlight. One can expect gators, snakes, and other such animals to be present. Considering this is a swamp, supplies come by train or boat, depending on the fluctuations of the water levels. The map used is CP Swamp Rat, one that I myself picked out. It is a custom map, and the link to download it can be found in the Introduction journal.
+ Another thing to be mentioned in the psuedo-modernism - since there is no exact time period, no yearly date, one can assume the characters in the roleplay will think and speak in a somewhat modern way. The year has been set to 1990 only for clarity. There may be more modernized tech (better medicine, better living conditions, modern food and such) but considering this is a war rp, these things will be severely limited. I do not want to see some character walking around with an ipod singing along to My Chemical Romance. That kind of behavior is not tolerated. The months and days will stay current, meaning if today is January 18th, that is what it will be in the rp. Doing this is easier to keep track of time.
+ Be literate. I intend to see that paragraph roleplay is used. No "script" roleplay, unless in OOC shenanigans.
- An example of script:
Mary: *shoots a rocket and aims a direct hit* Hah! Got you, sucka!
- An example of paragraph/"story":
Mary aims her rocket upwards, scanning the windows of the enemy base for any signs of life. A glimmer catches her eye, and she aims at a window where an oblivious Sniper is standing, looking elsewhere. With a blast, the rocket goes straight for the Sniper, most likely catching him off guard in the hail of shattered glass and wood. With a triumphant smirk, Mary calls out, "Hah! Got you, sucka!"
(It is important to note that the rocket may not have hit, making Mary's outburst a little premature. If Mary had written the rocket hitting into her post, that would be godmodding, something else we do not tolerate at Swamp-Rat).
+ It is expected you can at least type a small paragraph (1-3 sentences) when roleplaying. Also, remember that it is a group rp, and there may be more than just one-on-one roleplaying going on. So be patient! And try not ignore someone - not only is it exceptionally rude, but you will be reprimanded for it.
+ Another note to remember is not to send your character off alone and expect people to flock to them. Characters interact by working and being together, not by separating and waiting for someone to come to them - the world does not revolve around your character.
+Section 2+
+ Characters
+ No Mary Sues, or Gary Stus. No one is perfect, so why should your character be? Not every shot is a headshot, not every backstab attempt succeeds. Some characters are more skilled then others, just like in a real TF2 match.
+A good indicator of your character possibly being a Mary-Sue is here. Please check this out before applying!
+ Not everyone is friends with everyone, and some characters are more likely to argue when interacting then others.
+ If there are to be intimate relationships, as I expect there will be, be aware they do not occur overnight. Sexual or nonsexual relationships don't happen in a day, and attractions vary between characters. No one said that anybody had to be nice to anyone-in character, anyway.
+ As a precaution, there is a recommended age minimum of 22~25 years. Younger will not be entirely prohibited, but it is looked down upon if they are too young. I don't want to see any teenagers running around on the field. Any younger than 22~25 will lack training, and therefore be seen as inexperienced and not very useful to the team, skill wise. It must be remembered that this is still a war that must be fought.
HOWEVER. Exceptions can and will be made, should your application state that your character has had previous military training and/or war service. The common age of joining the military is 18 to mid-twenties, and then at least six months of skill-training before being put on the field. If your app demonstrates that your character, regardless of whether they meet the age limit, has had the previous experience to know what they are doing, this rule will not apply. This rule is ONLY for characters who spent all of their life doing nothing and then joined expecting to immediately be respected for skills they do not have. No 'she's not really good at doing the job of her class, but she got in anyway'. NO.
+ Try to keep true to your character, but be aware that over time, people change. Certain events or exposure to places/people can cause characters to undergo small changes. Not a complete reverse in personality, but perhaps something. Mental problems can occur, but a sudden psychotic break for shooting someone isn't all that common. Not everyone is crazy, but not everyone is sane.
+ Each team has a total of 36 Players. This does NOT include the Team Leaders, nor the four mystery extras per team. (Two Spees and Crabs. You'll find out what those are later.)
We would like to encourage having at least four of each class per team, and no more than seven of any class at the most (Not everyone can have a Spy or a Sniper; if we see one team getting too overrun with apps for any one class, we will make an announcement that that class is now locked).
+Section 3+
+"Drama"
+ Absolutely no drama. And by drama, I mean, unnecessary drama between roleplayers. Just because someone's character rejected yours, or managed to beat yours up, doesn't give you permission start a tantrum. OOC drama is unacceptable, and with be dealt with severely. One warning, then the next time, you WILL be kicked from the roleplay. If you are having an issue with someone, talk to me, my co-founder, or one of the moderators/advisors about it. We are adults here, and we can talk through our problems like adults. If you harass someone, expect the possibility of being kicked. If you are being harassed, tell a Moderator, and show proof of said harassment. If you can't prove it, then nothing can be done about it and, if it happens multiple times without any proof, you will end up not being taken seriously, in a rendition of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. I do NOT want accusations flying just to start shit. If it is found out that you have made accusations just to stir up trouble, you will be kicked. Also, harassment extends to outside of the roleplay. If someone is harassing you over skype, or AIM, it will be dealt with equally to that if it was in the roleplay. There is a zero tolerance for this sort of stupid behaviour from me, my co-founder, and the moderators.
+ However, this doesn't mean some fun can't happen. Considering this is the internet and all, let's not take every single little thing seriously. The rules for drama are meant for things that are unacceptable - which, honestly, can be something objective. What one person sees as harassment, another may not.
+ This is where the advisors/moderators come in. They are a balance for me and my co-founder. If I happen to dislike you personally, and do not want you in my roleplay, my co-founder and advisors can persuade me to ignore this, if enough of them want you to be accepted. Same for situations with drama - I may see something as a bannable offense, while some of my moderators may not. It may be the reverse - either way, I intend to try to be fair, and, knowing of my own personal biases to things, I have included moderators that will and will not be in the roleplay. The moderators that are in the roleplay act like chatroom mods, and they'll probably help with the application processes or help plan out battles. The ones that are not in the roleplay will be used to look at things from an 'outside' point of view. A list of these moderators will be available at a later time.
+Section 4+
+Application Process
+ Applications consist of written based form.
+ If your application is denied, more often than not a reason will be given. Maybe an error in your application, or something that I or one of my moderators feels needs to be adjusted.
+ There is a picture needed for the application, as well as a text based description. If you cannot draw, you may have a friend draw the picture for you with due credit. Considering this rp is mainly text based, not everyone needs to be an awesome artist. But if you are, kudos! You will probably do well in some of the events, and be encouraged to do fanart of the roleplay. You don't have to, of course, it is entirely your choice. It'd just be nice, and appreciated
+Section 5+
+Activity in the Group
+ If you do not appear in the Swamp Rat chatroom for more than 3 weeks without a reasonable explanation, you will be kicked. I expect people to be active, and I expect people to show up. I don't want someone to send in an app, then never come into chat. It defeats the purpose of being in the group; you could be taking up the space of someone who could be having fun while your inactivity just fills a slot.
+ It does not need to be me that sees you in chat - it can be other moderators.
+ As for the reason for your absence, a funeral, family coming over, holidays, things like that are acceptable. Homework is not. I know for a fact that both I and the co-founder go to school (and it is likely at least some of the moderators will too) and we can deal with homework decently enough to show up at least once or twice a week.
+ A steam group is going to be made for the rp, so if you have steam you could join that (it doesn't matter if you don't).
+ If you know that you will not be able to come to the roleplay for a period of time, we would appreciate you giving notice in advance. Doing so will assure you will not get kicked. There is a limit, however, to a 4 week period without genuine impossibility of getting on.
+ Lastly, please be active! I cannot stress this enough. Activity and interaction are what keeps a roleplay alive, and if the community of a roleplay isn't there, the roleplay will wither and die. Without the roleplayers, there is no roleplay. So please, be here!
Aren't we glad all that official business is over with?
Me too.
Now let's DO SOME FUN SHIT.
IT IS ABSOLUTELY VITAL THAT YOU READ THESE.
