Name: Gerhard Melsbach
Age: 38, DOB 21 October 1931
Gender: Male
Hair: Black
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5ft 8 (disguise; 2.5 ft torso, 9ft tentacles)
Weight: 162 lbs (heavier due to tentacles)
Position: Medic, Tenta sub-class
Company: Builder's League United
Appearance: Taller than most Medics, Gerhard is a sturdy fellow, built with a wiry strength that belies his almost slender stature, with dark slightly curly hair starting to go prematurely gray at the temples and bright cornflower blue eyes. He is rarely if ever seen out of uniform, though he seems to have a talent for silent motion despite his class's heavy uniform jackboots.
This most commonly seen appearance is actually a disguise engineered by a pilfered Disguise Kit and some of the Medic's “natural” abilities.
Underneath, his upper body is mostly the same, a bit paler and with a few oddly colored freckles spotted across his skin, but his lower half is very rarely taken in stride; eight slim tentacles matching the color of his eyes. These tentacles are speckled with bio-luminescent spots and reflective freckles that allow him a measure of natural cloaking, and he is very, very well practiced with them. Outside the tentacles, he also has notably sharper teeth, claws, horizontally slitted pupils, and gills creasing the curves of his ribs.
Personality: Gerhard is a very calm and patient sort of person, difficult to rile and even more so to smile. He is also more than a little bit paranoid, and will either go quiet or become extremely defensive if someone asks him why they never see him much off the battlefield or out of his Infirmary. It takes a lot for him to fully trust anyone, but he also has something of a maternal streak and won't hesitate to go out of his way to take care of someone who's not feeling well.
Relationships: TBA
Orientation: Heterosexual at one point, hasn't really thought about that kind of relations in a long time.
Background:
Gerhard grew up like most children do, living with both his parents and the family dog, playing with the neighborhood kids. He showed an aptitude in the medical field very early on, going out of his way to rescue injured animals and always ready with a box of band aids should a friend get a scraped elbow on the playfield. His parents saw this and did all they could to encourage him, hiring a tutor and taking him into the local doctor's office to say hello to the nurses and occasionally talk with the doctor himself.
By the time he graduated high school, at the top of his class and with dozens of letters of recommendation, he was a shoo in to any university he wished to go. Originally, Gerhard found himself most interested in the study of veterinary medicine, and was halfway to his BVS when he discovered that maternal streak of his while helping a friend tend to the children in the terminal ward, and his degree abruptly shifted to pediatrics with his need to help the little ones. 6 years into his pediatrics degree, the money funding his education dried up. Scholarships had expired and his parents' savings weren't going to cover the expenses he couldn't with the little money he got from tutoring, and he was forced to look elsewhere for funding.
And found Builder's League United.
He had skills they wanted, and they had the money he so desperately needed. So, he signed on, unaware of just what in the world he was getting into.
Rather than being assigned to the battlefield, Gerhard was sent off to the company's secret research facility, and he very quickly learned why his almost-degree in veterinary medicine was needed, tending to and testing the abilities of the various hybrid creatures being created by the corporation to turn the tide of their hidden war with Reliable Excavation and Demolition. Knowing he risked being transformed if he spoke out, he instead did everything in his power to try and improve the quality of life for the test subjects, providing comfortable bedding and items for entertainment whenever he was able and treating them humanely. Some of the doctors frowned at his “soft touch”, but it showed results, so they let it slide, until Gerhard's increasingly improved results got him promoted to sharing the position of Head Medic.
And things went well for a remarkably long time, the facility refurbished to more hospitable environment with test subjects being treated as patients instead of animals, and Gerhard found himself actually grateful for his scholarships having expired as he tended to the people and hybrids under his care.
Then the Wild One came, with the Surgeon trailing in its wake.
A lethal TentaSpy escaped from a much less kindly facility harboring a massive grudge against humanity, and the twisted genius who had created it.
Practically overnight, Gerhard's facility was overrun by the crazed beast taking out its rage on the innocent nurses and doctors and any hybrid who tried to protect them. Struggling to organize an escape and rescue attempt, Gerhard was an open and easy target for the Surgeon, ambushed in the mad scramble to flee from the rampaging TentaSpy. He was later found in one of the labs, unconscious and strapped down to a gurney with multiple IV drips stuck into him.
When he awoke, he was lying on the bottom of a glass tank, unable to feel anything below his waist and breathing hyper-oxygenated water. To make a long story short, he panicked, and had to be sedated before he could suffocate himself trying to climb out of the tank.
It took almost a month before he could be released from the intensive care unit, enduring his body being altered from the inside out and very nearly losing his mind from the agony of the process, and he was swiftly indoctrinated into the testing program to become acclimated to his new body. He spent almost six months in training, pushing himself to improve and adapt as quickly as possible so he could be useful again instead of taking up space.
In the interim, Gerhard was demoted and a new secondary Head was instated, and the facility quickly began to skid down the slippery slope back to its less than pleasant origins as the new secondary picked apart the humane policies that had put into practice. When the test subjects began returning to their tanks bruised and tired and even sometimes injured, the Medic pulled together what little remained of his pull with the other doctors on staff to get a message through to BLU headquarters, hoping they would step in to deal with the issue. Instead, he got a reassignment letter.
Transferred to this new base, Gerhard is still more than a little bit sore about the whole thing, but he's trying to make the best of a bad situation and turning his skills to helping his new teammates.
Primary Weapon: Crossbow
Secondary Weapon: Standard MediGun
Melee Weapon: Standard Bonesaw (Teeth and Claws)
Trivia:
+ While he can eat and digest red meat, Gerhard much prefers fish. In this new swampy environment, he'll likely end up practicing his hunting skills to sample the local seafood.
+ Gerhard is not venomous, but there is a kind of organic sedative in his saliva that he can use to defend himself or to aid him medically should such a need arise.
+ Though he hasn't played in a while, Gerhard used to be quite good at the clarinet, and would love an opportunity to play again.
+ He never has and never will have any kind of tolerance for alcohol. Two beers, and he is OUT.

First Person Sample (haven't written this in forever, oh well):
Sometimes, I really wonder just how the Companies hire these people. I mean, I can understand how some of them wind up here, money issues like my own, professionals in need of employment, that kind of thing makes sense.
But why in the world would one ever need to come into contact with a person so obsessed with fire that they actively attempt to fornicate with it?
This will be the third time this month I've had to prescribe antiseptic burn salve, we're starting to actually run low on the stuff! How does that even happen?!
Third Person Sample:
Gerhard considered himself to be a patient man, relatively forgiving and he'd been accused of being downright motherly by his colleagues during the past, but even he had his limits.
And, at this point, he had gone far past limits to the point where he was seriously considering bashing his head on the wall until he fell unconscious.
"Alright, tell me how in Gott's name you got your Shovel handle stuck in your bottom. Again."
At least the Soldier had the decency to blush...
Thread List:
Arrival (Vincens) Here's your new Medic. Say hello.
Mutual Creepification (Jacque) BLU's creepy-crawlies exchange greetings.
We Freaks Need to Stick Together (Specials Only) Gerhard is out for a swim. Anybody care to join?
Into The Darkness... (Jacques, Bosko) A new arrival late at night and a certain halfling trying to get into the warehouse.
Of Birds and Swamps (12, Jane) Two new Scouts arrive, and Gerhard is already starting to get a headache. {Dropped, 12 no longer participating}
